Mamelodi Sundowns vs Chippa United – 07 May 2025 – Players to watch, kick-off, H2H, betting tips & more!

You may think the Betway Premiership is already headed to Chloorkop, but mathematically, Orlando Pirates have an outside chance. For instance, if Mamelodi Sundowns drop points tonight, this would send waves of optimism in the Bucs camp, who did themselves a favour on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows.

Downs sit at the summit of the log with 61 points while Pirates tail them with a tally of 52. The Buccaneers have five games remaining where a total of 15 points is up for grabs.

If Jose Riveiro is able to engineer a plan to collect maximum points, Pirates will finish the season on 67 points. Sundowns, meanwhile, need a minimum of six points from their final four games to reach 67 and be declared champions with a superior goal difference.

But the job starts tonight against Thabo September’s stubborn Chippa outfit, who are desperate to return to winning ways after four fruitless games. Here, Hollywoodbets Sports Blog provides you with all the details for this encounter.

Players to watch

The season is nearing the end and everything is taking shape, from the summit of the log, the middle of the table and the relegation zone.

Players are also putting on a final push to be recognised in the PSL awards in various categories.

One player who is tipped to be a favourite in the running for the PSL Footballer of the Season is Downs star Lucas Ribeiro. The Brazilian has netted 13 goals in the league this term.

His luck, however, has seemingly run out as he has failed to find the back of the net in his last four Betway Premiership appearances and in 10 consecutive games across all competitions.

He was given 79 minutes last week against Cape Town City, and if selected again today, Ribeiro will be desperate to get on the score sheet, and that can only translate to a busy night for Chippa’s defenders.

For Chippa, September will rely heavily on budding midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who only played one half against SuperSport United last time out.

Kwayiba is currently the club’s top goalscorer with half-a-dozen goals in the league. In Chippa’s remaining three games, he will be hoping to score a minimum of goals to finish the season in double figures.

Betting tips
Best bet: Mamelodi Sundowns
Value bet: Chippa United

Mamelodi Sundowns 1/4 | Draw 39/10 | Chippa United 13/1

The Brazilians have lost to the Chilli Boys twice since their maiden meeting in 2012, but Chippa are yet to beat Downs in the league as these two victories were in knockout cup competitions.

Sundowns have made Chippa their doormat in the last five confrontations, scoring nine goals versus United’s sole strike as the Brazilians have collected 15 points from these encounters.

However, Downs may be tempted to take the foot off the pedal, only just a bit, given that the league is theirs to lose.

Cardoso could give some of his fringe players a run out as he would want to spare the legs of his regular starters for the Caf Champions League final against Pyramids.

This may be a window of opportunity for September’s side, who are looking to consolidate a top eight finish.

Backing Chippa may just turn out to be the best option. To win on this and other matches, head over to Hollywoodbets.net.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium

This venue is a fortress for Masandawana, who secured 13 victories in 15 league matches played here last season. The stadium is also shared with the Blue Bulls rugby team.

Notably, this 2010 Fifa World Cup venue is the only stadium to have hosted a presidential inauguration, with South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa taking the oath for his first term in 2019.

Loftus has been the site of numerous significant events, including the 2023 African Football League final, multiple Currie Cup finals, and the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup.
