Mamelodi Sundowns gear up for Royal AM showdown

Mamelodi Sundowns turn their attentions to Royal AM as the Betway Premiership resumes on Wednesday.

Fresh from their 5-0 demolition of Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout last 16, the Brazilians will be eager to build on their perfect league start.

Manqoba Mngqithi’s side have won their opening three matches, against SuperSport United, Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs.

They have also progressed to the group stage of the CAF Champions League,

Royal AM are, meanwhile, in ninth place on the league standings with four points from four games.

John Maduka’s tean have drawn their four opening games, with Cape Town City, SuperSport, Richards Bay and Magesi, but they come into this tie after losing 3-0 to the Citizens inthe cup.

After their recent win, Mngqithi said in the Citizen: “I must congratulate my boys for scoring five goals in as much as I do feel that we’re still not ruthless enough. I think in the first half we created a lot of situations where we could’ve scored more goals. We didn’t take those chances and we went to half time with only two goals but there’s a lot of positives.

“What I’m trying to fight for with the team and I think it’s getting closer into their heads is the paranoia to score goals and create scoring opportunities.

“We just take each game as it comes. I’ve always been optimistic that the team is going to come right. The team is strong and probably stronger than last season and I’ve always believed that we are on the right track. I believe that the approach that one has chosen for the team is the right one.”

Maduka added on FARPost: “Regarding the Sundowns game, very difficult game, playing away from home, we’re happy that we rested most of the players that I think will change the team to make sure that we bring fresh legs and we hope that those fresh legs will help the team against Sundowns.

“But we know that we’re going to do a very, very difficult game. It’s a team that wants to win the league again. So it’s not going to be easy.

“It’s very important for us to be ready. And those that didn’t play, they know that they have to be ready.”
