Mamelodi Sundowns manager Miguel Cardoso aims for the knockout stages of the Club World Cup as he begins his campaign against Ulsan HD at midnight.
The Brazilians are in Group F in the 32-team tournament with South Korea’s Ulsan HD, Brazilian team Fluminense and German side Borussia Dortmund.
They are first in action against Kim Pan-gon’s Ulsan at the Inter & Co Stadium on Wednesday.
Cardoso’s is well aware of the challenge facing Sundowns and admits it would be a massive achievement to reach the knockout rounds.
He said on IOL: “I don’t believe there is one single team before the competition that doesn’t believe they can make the next stage.
“Obviously for us it would be an incredible achievement to go through the group stage but before we achieve that we need to get points so we need to play a very complete match tomorrow.”
Sundowns were last in action in the CAF Champions League final two weeks ago, losing to Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
“I know it’s going to be tough but I expect it to be beautiful,” added Cardoso.
“We need to take it to the limit. There is a ceiling you need to go through at this Club World Cup. We need to understand what level we are playing at, and now just show what we can do and take the results as they come.”
