Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe says he’s pleased to have overcome a serious knee-injury.
The 27-year-old winger joined Sundowns in 2018 from Maritzburg United.
He has played 140 times although was forced to sit out most of the recently completed DStv Premiership campaign.
But Maboe returned to action towards the latter stages of the season and helped the club to a domestic treble.
The player said on IOL: “I think I gave myself another opportunity to be on the football field. It’s a lonely journey. You can’t share what you are feeling with anyone else.
“You can try to explain to them, but no one can feel what you are feeling. You can try to explain to them but no one is going through the pain that you are going through at that moment.
“It takes a lot mentally. It’s not easy to keep yourself sane at times. I get emotional just talking about this. But it hasn’t been an easy journey for me personally.
“But with the help of my family, girlfriend and the people that were always there for me (I bounced back). With such injuries you get to see who the real ones are.”
