Liverpool smashed the British transfer record to finally complete the signing of Alexander Isak, the striker putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.
The 25-year-old, who will wear the number 9 shirt, has had a long, drawn-out saga with Newcastle after refusing to train and play, with the transfer only being completed in the final hours of the transfer window.
Isak arrived on Merseyside late on Monday morning and completed his medical in two parts before all the necessary paperwork was done by the evening.
The forward said, “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of, and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
The Sweden striker has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading attackers during his three seasons with Newcastle.
Having arrived from Spanish outfit Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak netted 54 times in 86 Premier League outings for the Magpies, with 23 of those goals coming last season, when he finished second behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.
Isak added, “I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker, but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals, but much more than that as well.
“I want to win everything.”
