Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle secured their place in the Champions League as the English Premier League wrapped up its 2024/2025 season on Sunday.
The Citizens were too good at Craven Cottage, where they defeated Fulham 2-0 thanks to strikes from Ilkay Gundogan and Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker’s second-half penalty effectively ended the contest.
Chelsea were made to work hard for their 1-0 win away to this season’s surprise package Nottingham Forest. Pedro Neto provided the assist for Levi Colwill in the 50th minute. Forest, meanwhile, secured seventh and earned a place in the Europa Conference League.
Despite a second-half goal from Everton’s Carlos Alcaraz sinking Newcastle, the Magpies qualified for next season’s Champions League thanks to Manchester United’s unlikely win over Aston Villa. The Villa are promoted to the Europa League following their sixth-place finish.
At the top of the table, Premier League champions Liverpool fought to a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in front of the electric Anfield faithful. Talisman Mohamed Salah’s 85th-minute goal made him just the third player to record 47 goals in an EPL season.
The nearly-men of Arsenal laboured to a 2-1 win over relegated Southampton, thanks to a 89th-minute strike from Martin Odegaard. The win extends the Gunners’ impressive winning streak in final-day league games to 14.
