Listen: Soweto Giants Set the Transfer Market Ablaze

The Premier Soccer League’s transfer window burst open on Tuesday, July 1st, igniting a wave of high-stakes moves as top clubs aim to bolster their squads ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

In Mayfair, Orlando Pirates have made yet another headline-grabbing acquisition, unveiling Bafana Bafana international Oswin Appollis as their latest recruit. The dynamic winger adds depth and flair to an already formidable lineup, signaling the Mighty Buccaneers’ intent to challenge for the league.

Meanwhile, across town, Kaizer Chiefs weren’t about to be outshined. The Glamour Boys have roared into action with a trio of signings, welcoming Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, and Nkanyiso Shinga into the fold. These three players, all joining from overseas clubs, will use the upcoming friendly fixtures in the Netherlands to integrate with the squad and acclimatize themselves for the challenges of the new season.

Furthermore, Amakhosi confirmed the highly anticipated arrivals of Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako, both recently released by fierce Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates. That being said, African football expert Marc Strydom feels that Nasreddine Nabi needs additional reinforcements ahead of a chaotic season.

Speaking on Hit the Target powered by Hollywoodbets, Strydom said, “Firstly, he [Nabi] needs to have a strong discussion with his management. That’s first and foremost, I think a strong discussion to view his points and what he wants from the club. Secondly, the club needs to show up and back him because he is the man. They’ve backed him, they’ve kept him, they’re trusting him so they’ve got to show up as well.”

During his successful stint at Pirates, Monyane amassed an impressive collection of silverware, including four MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups. The 25-year-old right-back featured in 95 matches for the Buccaneers, contributing four goals and three assists, with 12 appearances in the recent past season.

Paseka Mako, a 31-year-old left-wingback, arrived at Pirates from Chippa United before the 2018/19 season. Like Monyane, Mako also boasts four MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups. His contributions also extended to helping Pirates secure a league runner-up finish on four occasions during his tenure.
