Liam Delap shines in Chelsea audition

Liam Delap starred as Ipswich Town secured their first home victory of the season, dealing a blow to Chelsea’s title aspirations.

The 21-year-old striker opened the scoring with a 12th-minute penalty, which he had won himself after a VAR review deemed goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen’s contact “sufficient” following Delap’s dribble.

Eight minutes into the second half, Delap capitalized on a poor back pass from Axel Disasi to set up former Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson for Ipswich’s second goal.

Despite dominating possession, Chelsea were unable to convert their chances. A first-half equalizer from Joao Felix was disallowed by VAR after a lengthy offside check.

Ipswich’s win lifts them above Leicester City into 18th place, just one point behind Wolves as they fight to escape the relegation zone.

For Chelsea, this defeat marks their second consecutive loss, following a goalless draw at Everton that ended an eight-game winning streak. They remain fourth in the Premier League but now trail league leaders Liverpool by 10 points, with Liverpool also holding a game in hand, significantly diminishing their hopes of a serious title challenge.
