Chippa United has promoted Kwanele Kopo to head coach for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season. The Chilli Boys ended their recently completed league campaign under the guise of co-coaches Kopo and Thabo September. The pair took over from Morgan
Kwanele Kopo, a native of Uitenhage located just outside Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, was the head coach at Chippa United, working alongside his protege, Thabo September, and their collaborative efforts made a significant and immediate impact in the club, helping it survive relegation before his departure mid-season.
It was at Wits that the 48-year-old started to take the coaching call seriously and was appointed as a Varsity team head coach and later national university team men’s coach. He sees this project as a process that they can build to long-term success in the Premier Soccer League.
Kopo now serve as the head coach of Motsepe Foundation Championship team, University of Pretoria, also known as AmaTuks.
