Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has shot down speculation that senior coach Steve Komphela could be on his way to Orlando Pirates to fill their head coaching position.
The speculation came about after former Downs assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi joined Pirates as part of their technical team and it was felt by many that Komphela would follow suit.
Currently Pirates don’t have a head coach after the resignation of Josef Zinnbauer and anybody that can be linked to the job probably has – by media.
In an interview carried by KickOff.com, Mokwena said as far as he was concerned Komphela was staying part of the Sundowns coaching team and going nowhere near Pirates.
“No, it’s business as usual, Mokwena said.
“We don’t respond to speculation. We don’t live in a space where we allow speculation to derail us from where we are trying to go.
“We are highly ambitious, and this season we are extremely hungry. We want to be the best.
“We want to work hard for that and not be deviated or side-tracked by minor issues and speculation.
“We want to focus and try to make sure we do our best not only for this club, president, chairman and everybody associated that gives incredible hours to see this club succeed.
“But also our fans,” Mokwena added.
