Khulumani Ndamane reflects on memorable Bafana Bafana debut

TS Galaxy defender Khulumani Ndamane has shared his emotions following a dream debut for Bafana Bafana.

Ndamane, who was named man of the match, described feeling overwhelmed by nerves before kickoff but said he found confidence on the field.

“I was so scared because it was my first game for Bafana Bafana,” he told the SAFA media team.

“I actually couldn’t believe that it was me playing in the national team. But when I stepped onto the pitch, I reminded myself that I’m here for a reason, and I needed to play my normal football.”

The 23-year-old defender earned his national team call-up after an outstanding season at TS Galaxy, where he made 27 appearances in all competitions. His impressive debut performance reflected his consistency and determination.

“Luckily, I played very well and got the man of the match award. I was so happy – it was my first ever man of the match award since I started playing football, and it happened at national level,” he said with pride.

A graduate of the Kaizer Chiefs Academy, Ndamane had been called up in March but couldn’t join the squad due to passport issues. Undeterred, he kept working hard and eventually seized his chance.

“I would like to thank all the South African fans who support us, and everyone who supports me personally. I promise to work very hard and not to disappoint them. Their support really means a lot to me,” he concluded.

Ndamane will aim to build on his momentum when Bafana Bafana face Mozambique in another friendly at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.
