Kekana: I cannot play forever

Hlompho Kekana

Hlompho Kekana admits it might be time for him to call time on his career.

The 36-year-old midfielder has been without a club since his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns this season.

Despite his years of top-flight experience and over 20 caps for Bafana Bafana, the former SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic player is yet to secure a new team.

Kekana said in the Citizen: “If an opportunity comes, I would have to decide if it suits my drive.

“But if it does not come, I will close the chapter because I’ve played for the longest time and it is time to face reality and understand that my services are no longer needed.

“I have not decided on that part but we know that I cannot play forever and there is going to come a time where I decide to make the call.

“At the present moment I am still training and it is something to just train not knowing what the future is holding.”

Kekana dismissed reports linking him with a move to DStv Premiership bottom-side Baroka.

“Those were rumours, I have not heard anything from Baroka and to be honest it was going to be a good opportunity for me to go and play for a club in Limpopo.

“If the opportunity comes I will think about it and decide based on how I feel on the day I get the offer,” he said.
