Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: The transfer fee Amakhosi paid for former captain Yusuf Maart

In a recent development, the transfer fee that Kaizer Chiefs received for the sale of their former captain, Yusuf Maart, to Austrian side SC Ried 1912 has been made public.

Maart’s move to the newly-promoted Bundesliga club came as a surprise, especially after he had recently extended his contract with Amakhosi for two more years.

The 30-year-old midfielder’s departure marks the end of a three-year stint at Kaizer Chiefs, where he made over 90 appearances, contributing seven goals and eight assists.

His final season at the club was particularly memorable, as he captained the team to their first trophy in a decade by scoring the winning goal against Orlando Pirates in the 2025 Nedbank Cup final.

According to a report by football media outlet FARPost, the transfer fee received by Kaizer Chiefs was €130,000, which converts to approximately R2.6 million.

This is a significant decrease from the R6 million Chiefs reportedly paid Sekhukhune United for Maart’s services back in June 2022.

The transfer has brought to light a potential legal dispute between the two South African clubs.

When Chiefs acquired Maart from Sekhukhune, a sell-on clause was reportedly included in the agreement, stipulating that Sekhukhune United would receive a 20% share of any future transfer fee.

This means that Kaizer Chiefs are now obligated to pay €26,000 (approximately R530,000) to Maart’s former club.

Reports indicate that Sekhukhune United has already sent a letter of demand to Kaizer Chiefs regarding the unpaid sell-on fee. If an agreement is not reached, a legal battle could be on the horizon.

Since his move to Austria, Maart has quickly integrated himself into the SC Ried squad. He has already made five appearances for the club, with three starts in the league and two substitute appearances, including one in the ÖFB Cup.

At his new club, he has reunited with former Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio van Wyk, who also plays for SC Ried.
