Kaizer Chiefs have made an impressive start to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, securing their second consecutive victory with a 1-0 win against Polokwane City.
The victory puts Amakhosi at the top of the table, a feat achieved despite head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s absence.

Nabi is currently in Tunisia to care for his wife, who was involved in a car accident. In his absence, assistants Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have stepped up to lead the team, overseeing two crucial victories in front of a passionate home crowd.
Kaze: “The Team is Led by Nabi”
Following the latest win, second assistant Cedric Kaze shed light on the coaching team’s dynamic, confirming that Nabi remains in constant contact with the staff.
Kaze explained that Nabi’s trust in his assistants is the key to their seamless operation. “I’ll say that we are always in contact with the head coach. But he trusts our experience, he trusts our knowledge too,” Kaze said as quoted by FARPost.
He emphasized that as the on-field staff, they have a deep understanding of the team’s day-to-day dynamics, from training performances to player combinations. This allows them to make informed decisions on the lineup, which are then communicated daily to Nabi.
Kaze was clear that Nabi is still the one guiding the team’s technical direction, stating, “Let’s just say that the technical staff is led by coach Nabi, and it doesn’t matter who is on the line.” He concluded by underlining the most important outcome: “Kaizer Chiefs is winning, and that’s the most important thing.”
The victory demonstrates the strength of the coaching staff and their ability to execute Nabi’s vision, ensuring the team’s momentum continues despite the head coach’s personal situation.
Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to extend their winning streak when they face Richards Bay at FNB Stadium. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 August 2025, with kick-off at 19:30.
