Premier Soccer League representatives in the Caf Confederation Cup, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch’s group stage opponents were revealed on Monday.
Chiefs made their return to continental football for the first time since reaching the 2020/21 Caf Champions League final where they lost against Al Ahly.
Amakhosi qualified on virtue of winning the Nedbank Cup, which they won against rivals Orlando Pirates.
The Soweto giants, alongside African heavyweights Wydad and Zamalek – among others, will be enticed by the USD 2-million winners prize money.
Chiefs were drawn into Group D alongside Southern Africa neighbours, Zesco of Zambia together with Al Masry of Egypt. Two-time holders and Egyptian giants, Zamalek, conclude the pool.
Stellenbosch, meanwhile went as far as the semifinals last season and avoided Amakhosi in this draw. Steve Barker’s side, like Chiefs, will be happy to have avoided Wydad Casablanca.
The Moroccan giants usually compete in the more prestigious Caf Champions League. Stellies’ Group C is made up of CR Belouizdad of Algeria, Congolese outfit AS Otoho and Tanzania’s Singidi Black Stars.
