Kaizer Chiefs News: Goal Drought Deepens as Interim Coach Kaze Laments Lack of 'Clinical Edge' at Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs interim co-head coach, Cedric Kaze, expressed clear frustration over his team’s inability to convert chances following their goalless draw against Siwelele.

The disappointing result marks the club’s third consecutive draw across all competitions, extending a troubling spell of inconsistency.

A Run of Draws Stalls Amakhosi

The stalemate follows a similar tie against Simba in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers and a draw against Stellenbosch in the Carling Knockout, which ultimately led to their elimination on penalties.

The midweek draw at FNB Stadium left Amakhosi cemented in fourth place on the Betway Premiership standings, having accumulated 16 points from their first nine games.

Alarmingly, this result extends their winless streak in the domestic league to four matches, leaving them five points adrift of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

Kaze on the “Tough Week” and Goal-Scoring Woes

Speaking to SuperSport after the match, Kaze acknowledged the toll of a demanding schedule but emphasized the need for ruthlessness in front of goal, even after handing a debut to new striker Etiosa Ighodaro.

“It is a tough week, with a game every three days,” Kaze explained. “It is very hard to keep consistency… even in this kind of game we had opportunities to score. We don’t have to play well every day but we need to put the ball in the net. We don’t seem to be clinical enough or lucky enough in front of the net.”

The coach stressed that only continued effort would resolve the issue: “The only thing is to keep working and I am pretty sure it will come.”

Assistant Coach’s Absence Explained

Kaze also took time to address speculation regarding the absence of assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef from the matchday proceedings, assuring supporters that it was not cause for alarm.

“Khalil attended a personal matter in Morocco; he wasn’t here, but he will be back tomorrow,” Kaze clarified, confirming the Moroccan coach’s swift return to the technical team.

Focus Shifts to Continental Competition

Despite their domestic struggles, Chiefs must quickly shift focus to the CAF Confederation Cup. The team is desperate to regain momentum when they host AS Simba on Sunday for the second leg of the Second preliminary round qualifier.

With Ben Youssef expected back on the touchline, Amakhosi will be chasing a crucial turnaround performance to secure a spot in the group stages of the continental competition.
