Kaizer Chiefs youngster Aden McCarthy has shared a positive update on his recovery, confirming that he is nearing a return to action.
The 21-year-old has missed the last two Betway Premiership matches after sustaining an injury against Richards Bay FC at the FNB Stadium last month.
His absence has been a blow, as he had started the season in fine form, collecting Man-of-the-Match awards in the opening two fixtures against Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane City FC.
Before his setback, McCarthy played a key role in helping Amakhosi secure back-to-back wins. Despite his absence, the Soweto giants have continued their impressive start under coach Nasreddine Nabi, remaining unbeaten and keeping five clean sheets in as many matches.
In McCarthy’s place, Nabi has relied on the centre-back pairing of Zitha Kwinika and Inacio Miguel.
Speaking at the handover of a multipurpose sports court at Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs, on Wednesday – a joint initiative between Chiefs and Nedbank following their 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph – McCarthy confirmed that he is ready to rejoin his teammates.
“I’m resuming training with the team this week, and I should be back very soon,” he said, via FarPost.
Meanwhile, Nabi continues to face defensive challenges, with Rushwin Dortley and Given Msimango still sidelined. Both sustained injuries toward the end of last season and are yet to feature in the current campaign.
Dortley, who joined Chiefs from Cape Town Spurs in July 2024, impressed in his debut season, making 20 appearances across all competitions and quickly winning over the Amakhosi faithful with his strong defensive displays.
Msimango, on the other hand, has struggled with injuries since his arrival from TS Galaxy in 2023, managing only 10 appearances last season.
McCarthy’s imminent return will therefore provide a welcome boost for Chiefs as they look to maintain momentum and depth in their backline.
