Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef expresses confidence ahead of the Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has expressed confidence that the team will emerge victorious in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

This comes after Chiefs secured their spot in the next round of the Nedbank Cup with a commanding 4-0 victory over third-division side Free Agents at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

The Amakhosi were in fine form, with Pule Mmodi netting a brace, while Inacio Miguel and Ranga Chivaviro added a goal each to seal the comprehensive win.

“The derby is 50/50 for both teams. We have our ideas; they have their ideas. We will see next week during the match, but we will win,” said Ben Youssef with confidence after the match.

Kaizer Chiefs have also displayed notable progress in the Betway Premiership, currently sitting fifth on the table with 21 points, just four points shy of third-placed Polokwane City as the season approaches its midpoint.

At the top of the standings, Mamelodi Sundowns remain dominant with 33 points, while Orlando Pirates trail them in second place, six points behind.

Despite Chiefs’ recent improvement, Ben Youssef offered a frank assessment of his squad after the win over Free Agents.

“Honestly, we have a good team, not very good players, but a good team. They all play for Chiefs, and they play for the badge,” he said.

“We have good players with ambition. They want to progress. We always try to maintain their fitness and manage the team effectively.”

The Soweto Derby promises to be an electrifying encounter, with Chiefs determined to build on their recent momentum and claim victory over their fierce rivals, Orlando Pirates.
