Kaizer Chiefs will be facing Egyptian side Al Masry in their opening Group D clash of the CAF Confederation Cup whilst Stellenbosch battle AS Otoho from Congo.
Kaizer Chiefs vs Al Masry
Kaizer Chiefs return to the Confederation Cup after a lengthy spell without continental football ahead of their Group D clash against Al Masry at the Suez Stadium on Sunday.
Amakhosi last participated in CAF competitions in 2021, losing in the final of the CAF Champions League against Al Ahly, whilst Al Masry was eliminated in the quarterfinals of last year’s tournament by Simba SC.
“I’m very excited. This is the African stage. It’s where we want to be,” said Club Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, to the club website.
“We’re expecting a tough test in Egypt, which is well known for its passion for football. Once we knew the draw and the destinations, we had to prepare thoroughly and, coming from the FIFA International break which we have used wisely, we are optimistic of giving our fans a good performance.”
The Glamour Boys have faced Egyptian opposition on two previous occasions, both losses against Al Ahly in the 2001/02 CAF Super Cup and the more recent Champions League defeat in 2021.

Stellenbosch vs AS Otoho
Stellenbosch will face against Congolese side AS Otoho in their opening CAF Confederation Cup group C clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Stellies will be competing stage for their second consecutive season in their opener against Congolese side AS Otoho on Sunday, following their semi-final loss last season against Simba SC.
“It’s very exciting to get our CAF Confederation Cup campaign underway,” said Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker ahead of the match.
“Everybody is raring to go and we’re looking forward to hosting our opposition AS Otohô, and to getting off to a good start by winning this home match because I think that will also be key in this competition.
“There’s a lot of enthusiasm, and we’ve had a good preparation period during the FIFA break. We were able to work on improving a lot of things, which we can hopefully apply this coming Sunday.”
The Western Cape outfit has struggled domestically this season and finds itself in 15th spot on the Betway Premiership table despite managing to progress to the group stages of the CAF competition.
