Kaizer Chiefs will be looking for a first win in four Betway Premiership when they host Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
The Soweto giants haven’t performed as well as they would have expected under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi this season with just three wins from their opening nine games.
They last overcame Richards Bay 2-1 in November but have since drawn 2-2 with Royal AM, lost 2-0 to Polokwane City and most recently were held to a 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy.
Chiefs currently occupy ninth place on the league standings while Chippa are in sixth place with two more points but having played a game more.
Kwanele Kopo’s side most recently lost 1-0 to Cape Town City after overcoming Magesi 2-0 and drawing 0-0 with SuperSport United.
Reflecting on his side’s start to the 20204/25 season, Nabi admitted his team is some way from being able to compete at the level he expects.
“The next two windows will be important in terms of bringing players who are experienced and tactically ready for the level required at Kaizer Chiefs, to help speed up the process to get to where we want to be,” the head coach said on SABC Sport.
After his team’s recent defeat, Kopo said: “We had the upper hand in the first half, we had many box entries, and we didn’t really give them space behind us, and I think they had one chance in the first half, when they took a shot and hit the bar.
“But, other than that, I felt we had good box entries, but I felt we were poor in the final third today, we rushed too many decisions, miss-kicked the ball when we clear.
“I had a feeling that we were going to struggle in the second half because we had the same situation with Magesi, [because] when you sit 14 days without playing and the other team has played, they’ve got a better rhythm.
“So, I felt we lost that rhythm, and it’s difficult because, in those 14 days, we are not able to even get a friendly. But congratulations to Cape Town City, they had one chance and took it.”
