Jose Riveiro remains focus despite imminent departure

Jose Riveiro will remain focused on the upcoming Orlando Pirates games despite his recently announced departure at the end of the season.

Pirates are in a good position to qualify for the semifinals of the CAF Champions League following their 1-0 win over MC Alger in the quarterfinal first leg away.

They are set to welcome the Algerian side on Tuesday for the return leg, but before that, a visit to Polokwane City awaits them for an important Betway Premiership clash on Saturday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“My priority right now is on our upcoming match against Polokwane City. This is a tough match. A match that needs our undivided attention and focus,” said Riveiro to the club’s website.

The Sea Robbers announced on Thursday that the Spaniard will leave the club at the end of the season.

Riveiro joined Pirates in June 2022 and led the club to five trophies, including three MTN8 in succession and two consecutive Nedbank Cup titles. He was at the helm of Pirates for 121 games, secured 77 victories, 20 draws and 24 defeats.

“The time will come for me to express myself on the decision I have made but now isn’t that time because we have a job to do. The season is far from over and we have a lot of work to do between now and the end of May,” he continued.

“Obviously, in an ideal world, one would have wanted to hold on making any statements until the end of the season but it’s not possible. The club needs to plan for its future and it’s only fair that they are given time to do so,” the coach concluded.
