Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro lauded the mentality of his players following their 2-1 comeback win over Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership.

Haashim Domingo opened the scoring for the Citizens at the Orlando Stadium after 21 minutes.

Tshegofatso Mabasa levelled with 67 minutes played before Goodman Mosele secured all three points with his 87th minute winner.

The result saw the Buccaneers end the weekend in second place on the league standings with 36 points from 15 games: 12 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, but with three games in hand.

Pirates recently lost 2-1 to City, in Muhsin Ertugral’s first game in charge, but were far more impressive this time around.

Speaking after securing the win, the Bucs boss said on IOL: “I think it’s clearly the key, for us during the season, during the whole season, what we’re achieving in terms of results, performances, the quality of these players are not in question.

“Everybody knows they are good enough to play at this club, to challenge for every title, to perform in the way they are doing. The key is to do it every day – even in your bad days, not bad days, it’s more my limitations in English [when I say this].

“Today was not a bad game from our side, but it was one of those games that is not looking nice, you’re not going to win the game playing beautiful but still you have to look for the result.”

A proud Riveiro added: “You can see whatever happens, this team never gives up, today they did an extra effort for the result. It wasn’t fashionable but effective and giving our fans the proper answer to their demands during the game.”

Pirates are next in action against Marumo Gallants at the Free State Stadium on Saturday.
