Jose Riveiro lauded Makhehlene Makhaula for his performance as Orlando Pirates edged Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the Soweto Derby on Saturday.
Patrick Maswanganyi scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the sixth minute of injury time at the end of the encounter.
Makhaula was excellent in midfield for the Buccaneers at the FNB Stadium as this game looked to be heading for a draw until Maswanganyi struck.
The result saw Riveiro’s side close the gap on Betway Premiership leader Mamelodi Sundowns to three points.
Amakhosi ended the afternoon in fifth place with 21 points – nine adrift of Pirates.
Speaking after the game, the Bucs boss told SuperSport: “His (Makhaula’s) game today I think was second to none.
“It’s something else. He was pushing the team in the bad moments; he was helping a lot to collect those second balls and carry the ball forward.
“He’s playing excellent football, hopefully he can continue like that for a long time.”
