John Maduka: Royal AM must avoid relegation fight this season

Royal AM coach John Maduka has explained the club’s ambition to improve on last season’s league finish.

Thwihli Thwahla ended last term in 13th place with 33 points, just three points ahead of the relegation/promotion play-offs.

They have drawn their four opening games of the new campaign, last being held to a goalless draw with newly-promoted Magesi.

They are next in action against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, having last lost 3-0 to Cape Town City in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout Cup.

The club are currently under a FIFA ban meaning they are unable to sign any new players.

On his mandate for the season, Maduka told iDiski Times: “For us is to make sure the team is still in a good position.

“And again, not to find ourselves in a similar position like what happened towards the end of last season finding ourselves with too much pressure on the team.

“We want to try regardless of the situation we are in but we want to try as much as we can to avoid that.

“We must know that we are comfortable wherever it can be, top eight, we must be comfortable not to fight relegation.”
