Italian Serie A: Gameweek 17 Preview

It’s neck and neck at the summit of the Serie A standings with Inter Milan and Juventus tied on 39 points. Napoli continue to spiral downward, while Lazio make ground on the league leaders. It’s been an epic 16 rounds of football and we still have a long way to go, but this is turning out to be an epic season of football. Following two midweek fixtures, we will be treated to eight games this weekend. Let’s get to it.

Friday 20 December

Fiorentina 7/4

Draw 49/20

Roma 15/10

(21:45)

Fiorentina are without a win in their last six matches, including four defeats. Roma have been impressive of late with three wins from their last four games, scoring nine goals and conceding just twice. The Viola are struggling to get back on track, while Roma continue to push for a place in the top four. A narrow and hard-fought away win is tipped.

Saturday 21 December

Udinese 15/10

Draw 47/20

Cagliari

(16:00)

Udinese are winless in their last five games but showed great fighting spirit in their last home match as they played to a 1-1 draw with Napoli. Cagliari’s 15-game unbeaten streak came to an end last time out with Lazio claiming a hard-earned 2-1 victory. The Islanders will be hungry to get back to winning ways but so will the hosts. An end-to-end game of football is on the cards with both teams tipped to find the back of the net at 13/20.

Inter Milan 7/20

Draw 38/10

Genoa 7/1

(19:00)

Inter Milan are only ahead at the top of the standing due to their superior goal-difference and should Juventus win their mid-week encounter at Sampdoria on Wednesday evening, the Nerazzurri will be under pressure to fire their way back to the top. Genoa have been dismal this season with just two wins from 16 matches, including a winless run on the road. Back Inter to get back to winning ways on the (-1) Handicap at 9/10.

Torino 15/20

Draw 51/20

SPAL 4/1

(21:45)

Torino have been playing some excellent football and are now unbeaten in their last three matches. SPAL can be found at the foot of the table with a mere two wins from 16 games, scoring just 10 goals and conceding 25 times. Torino have won the last two meetings at home against SPAL and offer good value to make it three on the spin. The home win is the way to go.

Sunday 22 December

Atalanta 9/10

Draw 26/10

AC Milan 28/10

(13:30)

Atalanta will be disappointed with their performance last time out after going down 2-1 at Bologna. AC Milan were not much better after playing to a dour goalless draw at home against Sassuolo, extending their winless run at home to three games. Last season’s meetings between these two produced four goals in each fixture. With that being said, the Over 2.5 Goals market is tipped at 13/20.

Lecce 21/10

Draw 26/10

Bologna 23/20

(16:00)

With just three victories from 16 matches, Lecce are placed 15th on the standings, including a 3-0 drubbing at Brescia last time out. Bologna will be buzzing with confidence following their impressive 2-1 home win over Atalanta. The newcomers remain winless on home soil. This won’t be a walk in the park but Bologna are tipped to come away with a hard-fought victory. Get on!

Parma 21/20

Draw 24/10

Brescia 26/10

(16:00)

Parma have been excellent of late with back-to-back away wins, including a 2-1 victory away to Napoli. However, Brescia have been just as great with two wins on the bounce, scoring four goals without shipping any. With both sides firing on all cylinders, I’m leaning towards a goal fest. Take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 15/20.

Sassuolo 36/10

Draw 32/10

Napoli

(21:45)

Sassuolo are winless in their last four games but earned three consecutive draws against AC Milan, surprise packages Cagliari and defending champs Juventus. Napoli, on the other hand, have just been dismal as they remain without a win in their last eight matches. The hosts are unbeaten against the Azzurri in the last four meetings with three consecutive stalemates and a win. Get on the Sassuolo – Home/Draw – Double Chance at 23/20. For the brave, the straight win is well worth a punt at 36/10.

TREBLE @ 6/1

Inter Milan (-1) Handicap 9/10

Torino Win 15/20

Sassuolo Win/Draw 23/20
