Inacio Miguel talks giving Kaizer Chiefs veteran defender Zitha Kwinika the captain’s armband

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel feels that Zitha Kwinika has all the qualities to lead the Betway Premiership side.

Miguel was named Amakhosi skipper at the start of the season following Yusuf Maart’s exit.

Kwinika joined Chiefs from Stellies in 2022 and has gone on to play 53 times, scoring one goal.

He made his first appearance of the new season in the league win over Richards Bay last time out as a replacement for an injured Aden McCarthy and was immediately handed the captain’s armband by Miguel.

Ahead of facing Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, Miguel explained in the Citizen: “I will always say that Zitha for me is our ‘madala’, our captain.

“I had no instructions to give the armband to Zitha but I felt he deserved it. More than a player, he is a fantastic human being and a leader.

“He has a big history at this club and I respect him for that. From last season his level never dropped.

“The younger generation also have to look at him as a role model and a hard worker. Consistent players also look good in bad moments. I don’t know the squad on Wednesday but if Zitha plays I will give him the armband.”

On facing the Brazilians, who last lost to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi-finals, Miguel added: “People think because Sundowns lost to Pirates they will no longer have confidence. But I don’t see it that way.”
