“I would like to congratulate my boys because they have got the character as well” – Abdeslam Ouaddou reflects on Pirates’ victory over Stellenbosch

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou praised his players for securing their first league win of the new season against Stellenbosch.

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says he is excited to bring joy to the fans after securing their first league win of the new season against Stellenbosch.

Kamogelo Sebelebele’s 15th minute strike was the difference between the two teams in their Betway Premiership clash at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

Pirates had started the new season with defeats to Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants but overcame a Stellies side who have also started their season below expectations, with just one point from their opening three games.

The home side were in control of the tie in the first half but struggled to replicate that form after the break as Stellies came close to an equaliser on a number of occasions.

Speaking after the game, Ouaddou told SuperSport that his side need to start to control games for the full 90 minutes if they are to be successful this season.

He said: “Of course, I’m delighted. I’m delighted for the fans because I have a thought for them because they were waiting for these three points for two-three weeks now so I have thought first of all for them.

“I would like to congratulate my boys because they have got the character as well. We had a very interesting first half, we created top chances, we could have killed the game earlier.

“In the second half, I think we lost the control and I think we have to improve in that if we want to go higher. We cannot accept to lose control of a game that we controlled since the beginning.”

Pirates are next in action in their MTN8 semi-final second leg with Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday. The two teams are tied at 1-1 from first leg that took place last Saturday.
