Orbit College and Casric Stars kicked off their Betway Premiership Promotion Play-Off campaigns with a hard-fought 0-0 draw on Wednesday afternoon in Rustenburg.
The result leaves both teams with a single point as they vie for a spot in South Africa’s top flight.
The match began with some intriguing tactical decisions, particularly from the home side, Orbit College. They surprisingly opted to start without their key forward, Gomolemo Khoto, instead fielding Siyabulela Mabele and seasoned striker Letsie Koapeng.
Casric Stars, on the other hand, went with an experienced attacking trio, featuring the well-known Kermit Erasmus, Thabang Rakwena, and Decide Chauke.

It was Orbit who almost broke the deadlock early on. Just minutes into the game, Mabele capitalized on a loose ball, unleashing a powerful shot that forced a smart save from Casric goalkeeper Emile Lako Wendeu.
Both teams displayed attacking intent throughout the first half, making for an engaging contest. Casric Stars came close to scoring midway through the opening period when Thabang Semache’s long-range effort required a strong save from Orbit’s shot-stopper, Sekhoane Moerane.
Moerane was tested again before halftime, brilliantly tipping a precise header from Simon Fils Ndou Moukete over the crossbar.
Looking to inject some fresh impetus, Orbit College made two key substitutions at the break, bringing on Khoto for Koapeng and Reuben Kgabane in place of Erasmus. However, the second half proved to be a far more cagey affair. Both defenses tightened up, adopting a more cautious and compact shape, which significantly limited goal-scoring opportunities.
As the game progressed, clear-cut chances became increasingly scarce. Casric introduced Abbey Sesane late in the match in a desperate attempt to snatch a winner, but neither side could find the decisive finishing touch.
The draw sets the stage for a compelling play-off series. Both teams will now look to their upcoming fixtures to gain an advantage in the race for promotion. Orbit College’s next challenge will be against Cape Town City. Kick off at DHL Stadium is set for 15h00 on Saturday, 14 June 2025.
