Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori remains determined to fight for a spot in the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, despite a long absence from the national team setup.
Ofori has not featured for Ghana since their disappointing first-round exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The former Orlando Pirates shot-stopper, who now plays for AmaZulu, revealed his strong ambitions in an interview with iDiski Times, emphasizing that his focus is squarely on his current club performances as the path back to the international stage.

“I’m working hard and then focusing on my team at the moment,” Ofori stated. He understands the requirement for national team selection, noting, “That’s what you need to do for you to be there, because you can’t’ sit on the bench, or you can’t sit and then just wake up and go.”
His commitment is clear: “So, I’m working hard in my team to help my team in the league, and then the rest will take over.”
Return to Action
Ofori’s 2025/26 season has been hampered by injury struggles, limiting him to just four appearances for AmaZulu so far. Notably, he had to be substituted during his club’s MTN8 loss against Stellenbosch in August.
However, the goalkeeper is now looking to secure his place in the starting XI and consistently impress. His next opportunity to bounce back and showcase his form comes this Saturday at 15:00, when AmaZulu host PSL newcomers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in their crucial Betway Premiership clash.
Consistent, high-level performances will be crucial for Ofori if he hopes to catch the eye of the Ghanaian national team selectors and fulfill his dream of playing at the World Cup.
