Ghana coach Otto Addo was left disappointed with his side’s performance in front of goals in the 1-1 draw against Chad in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Black Stars took a 17th-minute lead through captain Jordan Ayew’s tap-in following excellent work on the wing by Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing Mohammed Kudus.
However, the Ghanaians failed to add to that goal with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo missing a golden chance in the first half whilst Kudu’s came closest to score for the visitors in the second half.
A defensive lapse of concentration allowed Asec Mimosas forward Celestin Ecua to charge towards Ghana’s goal from 40 metres out before unleashing a deflected shot that left Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare standing.
“Yeah, very disappointing, just one point for us,” said head coach Addo after the match.
“It’s not easy for us to play on this ground, in the heat, but we have to take it, and I think we came in well to score the first goal. Continued to dominate, we created a lot of chances, but we were not sharp enough to use them.”
The result keeps Ghana at the top of Group I, three points ahead of their clash against third-placed Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
