George Matlou signs new contract with Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly extended the stay of midfielder George Matlou following the expiration of his contract in June.

The 27-year-old former Bidvest Wits midfielder joined Amakhosi from Moroka Swallows in 2022 and has gone on to play 41 times in all competitions, assisting with three goals.

Matlou was instrumental during Amakhosi’s effort to end the ten-year trophy drought, providing two assists on their way to lifting the Nedbank Cup last season and winning the Man of the Match award during their 4-0 win against Free Agents FC.

His previous contract expired at the end of last season, but he has since signed a new deal to keep him at the club this campaign.

Amakhosi have not yet confirmed the news, but the player’s Agency, Mscsports Talent Management Division, say the deal is done.

“George Matlou commits to the journey! The midfielder extends his stay with the Amakhosi,” said the agency.

Matlou has made one appearance for Chiefs this season, playing the final minutes of the recent Betway Premiership win over Golden Arrows.
