Gavin Hunt satisfied with new signings despite missing out on Sundowns forward

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has expressed satisfaction with his January transfer window signings, despite being unable to secure a Mamelodi Sundowns forward.

Hunt revealed that he tried to sign Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko on loan this transfer window.

Maseko, who joined Downs from Matsatsantsa in 2023, has struggled for game-time under Miguel Cardoso this season, playing just seven times in all competitions.

Sundowns though were unwilling to release the player and instead allowed midfielder Lebohang Maboe to go on loan until the end of the current campaign.

Joining Maboe at SuperSport are Ghanaian winger Enoch Quaicoe from ASKO Kara and DR Congo forward Christian Saile from Kaizer Chiefs.

Reflecting on his transfer business, Hunt said on FARPost: “Yeah, we tried for whatever reason; obviously, they hold the aces, and we can’t, you know. He wasn’t playing much, and so we tried to get him, and we didn’t get him. So, yeah, we move on.”

Hunt added: “Yeah, look, I mean, we’ve done well to bring in Christian, Samir and Lebo, obviously.

“So yeah, we’ve done well in terms of bringing in [players]. Certainly, that end of the pitch is what we need. Yeah, so let’s see. But now you’ve got to make this thing gel and work.

“As people can say, you can’t just put it together; it takes time. We don’t have time as well, so we’re going to try to get it going as soon as we can.”
