Gaston Sirino determined to lift Nedbank Cup with Kaizer Chiefs

Uruguayan striker Gaston Sirino says he’s hungry to win the Nedbank Cup and make history with Kaizer Chiefs.

Sirino joined Amakhosi from Mamelodi Sundowns, where he lifted 11 trophies, including the Nedbank Cup, with victory over Marumo Gallants in the 2021/22 final.

Chiefs, meanwhile, last won the competition in 2012/13, but Sirino is determined to help his new team win their first trophy in almost 10 years.

They came into this game on the back of a narrow 2-1 Betway Premiership defeat to Orlando Pirates – who they face in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Sirino was reported by the Citizen to have said: “I want to make history here.

“Saturday is a good opportunity for so many players here to win the Nedbank Cup. I already won it but Saturday is a special trophy for everyone.”

The player continued: “Of course we played better than them (in the Betway Premiership at the weekend) and lost, so we need to push more and focus more.

“We needed to control the game more, especially when we scored. In football sometimes you play well and lose. The final is a different game, but I think we can prepare well this week to win it.”

Sirino has three goals and six assists in 23 appearances in all competitions for Chiefs.

“I want more,” added the 34-year-old. “Sometimes we play good but I have no assists or goals. I also need to focus on myself and my mistakes to assist or score more.”
