SuperSport United skipper Dean Furman insists the team is not getting carried away after their convincing 6-1 victory over Orlando Pirates in midweek.
Matsatsantsa were trailing at half-time but rallied magnificently after the break, putting six goals past Pirates keeper Brighton Mhlongo at Mbombela Stadium.
And, with the result moving SuperSport up to second place in the Absa Premiership standings, it has been suggested that Stuart Baxter’s men could mount a sustained title challenge this season.
However, while Furman is cautiously optimistic, he insists his side will remain focused on the task at hand, starting with Saturday’s Telkom Knockout quarter-final tie with CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
“It’s just a win. We haven’t won the league because of that win and we haven’t won a cup because of that win,” Furman said, as quoted by Times Live.
“It may have been a very good win, but it was just three points and a great performance. There is no reason for us to get our heads in the clouds because we have not done anything,” he said.
“We are focused on winning big things this season and if we start getting carried away by one good victory, that’s not how things are done.
“Our focus now is on Sundowns and the quality they bring.”
