Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says if the club want to bring in former mentor Stuart Baxter then it is completely their own decision.

Middendorp has been under pressure to get off to a good start this season following a 2018/19 campaign in which Chiefs finished ninth and lost the Nedbank Cup final to TS Galaxy.

However, the side from Naturena produced a positive response in their first Premiership match of 2019/20 as they defeated Highlands Park 3-2.

Nonetheless, while the German was largely happy with the three points, he admitted that bringing in former Bafana Bafana coach Baxter at some stage in future would have nothing to do with him.

He told reporters: “Not so important for us to look to other teams but we were aware of it [other teams winning] and I think a lot of teams will have to do a rough job here to take three points that’s for sure.

“They [Highlands] are a good team with a fighting spirit, capacity to make it dangerous for you. But it is good to have a good start three points now we go to Durban but forget about me these players have a huge reputation and we spoke a lot about it off the field and I think this is something we must continue, we have to fight and competitive.

“If the club has an idea to bring Stuart Baxter they should do it thank you.
