Eric Tinkler says Sekhukhune United’s victory over Orlando Pirates in their opening game of the new Betway Premiership season will mean nothing if they don’t beat TS Galaxy this evening.
Babina Noko saw off the Buccaneers 1-0 with a goal from Siphesihle Mkhize, just a week after a come-from-behind MTN8 quarter-final victory over the Rockets, who lost to Durban City in their first league fixture.
Tinkler has warned his side against complacency at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, especially as Galaxy will be desperate for a result after their woeful start to the new campaign.
The former Cape Town City boss said on IOL: “We’ve got a game [coming up] and if we don’t win that one, then this result means nothing.
“It’s about building on that, don’t become complacent. So, obviously consistency in the performance becomes the key.”
Tinkler explained that that despite his side showing good signs early on, he expects to come up against a far stronger Galaxy side this time out.
“The character the guys showed in the MTN8 came out again (against Pirates) and I think we are creating a very disciplined and well-cultured team. The work ethic both at training and in matches have to match what we are doing in training,” he said.
“But truth be told, Galaxy had six to seven players who were not registered. I think the team we are going to face on Wednesday is going to be a very different team to the one we faced in the MTN8.”
