Eric Tinkler kicked off his tenure as Sekhukhune United’s head coach with a thrilling 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants, thanks to a last-minute header from Chibuike Ohizu at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night.
Although the match seemed destined to end in a 1-1 draw, Ohizu, who came on as a substitute in the second half, led his team to victory in Bloemfontein.
The match was delayed by around 45 minutes due to heavy rainfall at the Dr Molemela Stadium, forcing both teams to wait before beginning their latest league fixture.
Once the match got underway, both Gallants and Sekhukhune created a few early chances, with Gabadinho Mhango and Andy Boyeli coming close to scoring.
Sekhukhune made changes at halftime, bringing on Sipho Mbule, Chibuike Ohizu, and Vusimuzi Mncube from the bench.
The home side broke the deadlock just five minutes into the second half, with Linda Mntambo scoring from a set-piece. Gallants responded shortly after the hour mark when substitute Sede Dion equalized with a header inside the six-yard box.
However, it was Sekhukhune who had the final say, as Chibuike Ohizu netted the winning goal in the 94th minute with a close-range header following a quick counter-attack.
