Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says Cape Town Spurs have gone backwards under Ernst Middendorp.
Tinker’s side overcame Spurs 2-0 in the DStv Premiership on Sunday with goals from Relebogile Mokhuoane (35′) and Jaedin Rhodes (90′).
Middendorp was brought in to replace Shaun Bartlett following a run of eight defeats.
The new man at the helm lost all of his games in charge before holding AmaZulu to a 1-1 draw last week, but Spurs were always second best against a rampant City side, who are now in second place on the league standings.
After their loss to City, Middendorp could be seen remonstrating with supporters, who were calling for his dismissal.
Bartlett said on iDiski Times: “I don’t [think] they’re playing the brand and football that they were under Shaun [Bartlett], my honest opinion.
“I just thought right at the beginning Shaun was a bit unlucky in some of the results. I thought the performances were not as bad as what they’ve been since the changes.
“I think a little bit unfair on Shaun, but I understand eight losses in a row, we understand that. I think the obvious is strengthening the team, which I don’t think they did.”
Bottom-of-the-table Spurs are next in action against Royal AM on 14 February.
