Eric Tinkler: ‘It’s still early days, we need to stay grounded’

Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has warned his side not to get carried away with their early season form in the Betway Premiership.

Babina Noko top the league standings with 19 points from their opening seven games, one point clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Along with Downs, they remain the only two unbeaten teams in the South African top-flight, although the Brazilians have played one game more.

They most recently overcame Golden Arrows 1-0 at the weekend and are next in action against Chippa United on Wednesday.

Bradley Grobler has been a key contributor to Sekhukhune’s success this season with six goals in seven matches.

Tinkler said in the Sowetan: “I think it is very important we stay grounded and don’t let our success go into our heads. Both players and technical staff, have worked extremely hard to get where we are and that work needs to continue.

“I told you it is still early days in the season and we want to be up there, that’s been our purpose and objective since I’ve arrived at the club. Talking about winning the league is way too early.”
