The 30-year-old picked up the injury on 18 January during Everton’s 1-0 win over former club Aston Villa. While there were hopes of a swift recovery, Grealish has since confirmed he underwent foot surgery and is now focused on rehabilitation.
Posting on social media, the Manchester City loanee expressed his disappointment but remained optimistic about his recovery. Grealish shared an image from his hospital bed alongside a message to supporters, stating that he was “gutted” the campaign had ended prematurely but was determined to return “fitter, stronger and better than before.”
Grealish had become an influential figure at Everton following his season-long move from City. He made 22 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and six assists while playing a key creative role in the side. The midfielder last featured for England under caretaker manager Lee Carsley in October 2024. His absence will also come as a blow for Everton, who had benefitted from his attacking spark and leadership during his loan spell.
Despite the setback, Grealish took time to thank the Everton staff, teammates and supporters for their backing during his time at the club. He said the support he had received since arriving on Merseyside had meant a great deal to him and insisted he would continue to support the team while working towards his return to full fitness.
Grealish joined Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then British-record 100 million pounds and enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup. However, he struggled for regular minutes last season, starting just seven league matches before being left out of City’s Club World Cup squad, which ultimately led to his loan move to Everton.
