Edmilson Dove: Kaizer Chiefs Must Delay Cup Celebrations in Pursuit of Top-Eight Spot

Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove insists the team has put celebrations on hold as they gear up for a vital Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United.

Currently sitting ninth on the standings with two matches to go, Chiefs are facing a tough challenge against a red-hot Sekhukhune side at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

While the club recently celebrated Nedbank Cup success, attention has now turned to salvaging what has otherwise been a disappointing league campaign.

“We know the importance of Saturday’s game, and we have put the celebrations aside,” Dove told the club’s media department.

“We’ve shifted focus back to the league. The training sessions have been good, the mood is positive, and we know what’s required. The coach has been preparing us well, and we are ready to fight.”

The Mozambican international acknowledged that Chiefs’ season has been below expectations but stressed the importance of finishing strong.

“There are no easy games in this league. What matters now is focusing on ourselves and correcting what we haven’t done well,” he added.

Dove emphasized the team’s determination to secure all three points on Saturday.

“It’s been a difficult season, but our main goal now is to make sure we finish in the top eight. We’ll do everything we can to make that happen.”

Babina Noko will also be motivated following head coach Eric Tinkler winning the Coach of the Month for April, with midfielder Keletso Makgalwa scooping the Player of the Month award.

Kaizer Chiefs will need to bring their A-game if they are to overcome Sekhukhune, who have been in strong form this season, and push for a spot in the competition’s top tier. Kick off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium is set for 15h00 on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
