Former TS Galaxy striker Dzenan Zajmovic has put to bed speculations that have been linking him to Kaizer Chiefs.
The Bosnian attacker was part of the ten players who were announced to have parted ways with the Rockets on July 31.
“Unfortunately, my chapter at TS Galaxy has come to an end. I would like to thank the chairman, the head coach, the club director, the whole staff and last but not least, my AMAZING TEAMMATES. It truly felt like being part of a family,” he said.
The 30-year-old joined the Mpumalanga-based team at the start of the 2024/25 season after the club cut ties with Samir Nurkovic, and he fitted like a glove in Adnan Beganovic’s set-up, netting 11 goals and providing two assists across all competitions.
Following the announcement of his exit, he was heavily linked with Chiefs and viewed as a proper replacement for Ranga Chivaviro, but Amakhosi eventually signed Flavio Silva from Persebaya.
Speaking to KickOff, Zajmovic confirmed that two teams approached him, but their offers were not enticing. He rubbished the link to Chiefs and confirmed that no contact was made.
“Two clubs made contact, but I was not happy about the proposal about a month ago. It was not even one of the big three clubs in South Africa. Okay, with regards to Kaizer Chiefs, they never contacted me. I have seen people writing a lot of nonsense that I’m negotiating with them, but nothing like that has happened,” he said.
“All the things on the internet about me and Chiefs are not true because they have never contacted me. What I know is that I have shown myself in a good way, but maybe it is not good enough for some clubs.”
Zajmovic said it’s not clear where he will go next and added that he would’ve relished the opportunity to play for one of the big three, Chiefs, Orlando Pirates or Mamelodi Sundowns as he had adapted to PSL football.
“You never know who decides in the clubs, and they go for what they like. With regards to where I would go next, I prefer respect and being valued. Maybe I will go to Asia. I’m fit.
“In South Africa, I would have liked to go to one of the big three because I have already adapted. If it is another club outside the big three and they show that they really want and value me, then I will take that offer.
“It is strange that the top three clubs didn’t contact me despite the numbers that I had in South Africa because I feel I did well,” he concluded.
