Downs earned R4 million from Silva sale

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Toni Silva

Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly pocketed a handsome R4 million after selling flop forward Toni Silva to Egypt’s Al-Ittihad.

Silva signed for Sundowns at the start of 2018/19 and much was expected of the highly rated Guinea-Bissau international.

However, he failed to find his feet at Chloorkop, managing just 11 appearances and two goals for the Brazilians.

According to reports, the player put in a transfer request and it soon emerged that Al-Ittihad were highly interested in his services.

The 25-year-old later then penned a two-and-a-half year contract with the outfit from Alexandria.

Despite Silva’s agent, Godwin Emmanuel, refusing to disclose the amount paid for the former Liverpool and Chelsea youth product, Kickoff have revealed his transfer fee was R4 million.

Emmanuel told the publication: “It’s confidential. That doesn’t happen in Africa.

“I can only confirm that the deal is done now.

“He will be wearing jersey number seven.”

The Bissau-born star scored on debut for his new side netting in a match played on Wednesday.
