Downs aim to win in Champions League to inspire Bafana

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says that beating Libya’s Al-Ahly Benghazi in the next round of the CAF Champions League could be inspiring for Bafana Bafana.

Bafana are set to face Libya in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in 2019 in which the national team need just a point or a win to qualify for the tournament.

As such, Mosimane takes the view that beating a major Libyan side could be used to show the national team that anything is possible.

It is expected that the Brazilians will play the away leg of their two-legged tie in Egypt due to political unrest in Libya. In addition, Bafana are also set to play the Mediterranean Knights in a neutral venue.

He said: “But this time we are stuttering and that’s why I started with the team I fielded, we need the momentum. We need to build the momentum, build confidence and develop a winning streak.

“That’s important. You must also know where we are going. We are going to Al-Ahly Benghazi because they won. I think we’ll probably play them in Egypt (because of the political turmoil in Libya).

“That’s a big one, against a very big team. It’s up to the boys to bring confidence to the country. We have to win against that team so that we give Bafana Bafana confidence because most of the players who play for Libya are there. It’s important to win away.
