DDC: "Hopefully that has a little bit of an influence in the first team.” - Kaizer Chiefs coach Dillon Sheppard reveals how he plans to inspire AmaKhosi to the Nedbank Cup trophy

Dillon Sheppard, assistant coach for the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge team, believes their pursuit of the 2024/25 reserve league title can ignite a spark within the senior squad and propel them to greater achievements.

Speaking to FARPost, Sheppard highlighted the potential ripple effect of success at the DDC level.

With the first team having last tasted major silverware in the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter, securing the DDC trophy after a decade since its inception could provide a significant morale boost.

Currently occupying the eighth position on the Betway Premiership table with only four matches remaining, the senior Amakhosi side does have an opportunity to claim silverware in the Nedbank Cup, where they are set to face Orlando Pirates.

Meanwhile, Sheppard’s DDC charges are demonstrating impressive form, currently leading their league standings with 61 points from 25 matches, holding a slender one-point advantage over Stellenbosch with a crucial game in hand.

Sheppard emphasized the unified nature of the club, stating, “It would be huge to win the DDC after ten years [since it’s inception], it will contribute and help towards the first team, that would be great.

“Remember, we all represent the club. So we are going to push to win and hopefully that has a little bit of an influence in the first team.”

His words underscore the hope that the DDC team’s success can translate into renewed vigor and inspiration for their senior counterparts. Kaizer Chiefs will be involved in Betway Premiership action next against Marumo Gallants. Kick off at the FNB Stadium is set for 15h00 on Saturday, 26 April 2025.
