Cooking Up a Storm: Orlando Pirates Snatch Sipho "MasterChef" Mbule from Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates have officially announced the signing of highly sought-after midfielder Sipho Mbule, effectively snatching him from under the nose of bitter Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

This significant acquisition comes hot on the heels of the Buccaneers unveiling their new head coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, for the upcoming season.

The talented 27-year-old Mbule, affectionately known as “MasterChef” by South African football fans, was a free agent after his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns expired last month.

Sundowns notably opted not to exercise their two-year extension option on the highly-rated midfielder’s contract, reportedly due to concerns surrounding his off-field conduct.

Mbule’s Journey: From SuperSport to Sundowns and Sekhukhune

Mbule spent the majority of the recently concluded season on a loan spell at Sekhukhune United, where he aimed to secure more regular game time. He had a promising start under then-head coach Lehlohonolo Seema, making 17 appearances across all competitions for Babina Noko, scoring two goals, and providing three assists.

That being said, his loan was reportedly cut short amid disciplinary concerns, including allegations of attending training under the influence of alcohol.

Prior to his loan at Sekhukhune and his stint with Sundowns, where he featured in 51 matches with three goals and one assist. Mbule rose to prominence during his time with SuperSport United, making 101 appearances for Matsatsantsa.

Furthermore, he boasts four caps for the South African national team and could play his way into selection ahead of the AFCON tournament set for December later this year.

A Shock Move After Amakhosi Rumours

For weeks, rumors had been swirling about a potential move for “MasterChef” to Kaizer Chiefs following his departure from Masandawana. Fans and pundits alike widely expected him to don the famous gold and black jersey.

Nevertheless, Orlando Pirates wasted no time and delivered a major coup, securing Mbule’s signature just before their pre-season camp in Spain.
