Carling Cup: Kaizer Chiefs youth shine in All-Stars Triumph

Carling Cup: Three takeaways from Carling All-Star victory

Kaizer Chiefs youth players shone brightly as the All-Stars cruised to a 3-0 victory over Magesi FC at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, scoring all three goals in the first half.

Naledi Hlongwane opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a left-footed finish, assisted by Chiefs teammate Samkelo Zwane. Ten minutes later, Zwane doubled the lead, converting an Ashley Du Preez pass. Just a minute later, Hlongwane completed his brace with another left-footed strike, this time assisted by Mbekezeli Mbokani.

Magesi struggled to contain the All-Stars attack, though Edmore Chirambandare hit the crossbar with a chance to pull a goal back.

In the second half, Magesi pushed for a response, with Wonderboy Makhubu testing All-Stars goalkeeper and captain Sipho Chaine. The All-Stars’ brought on some attacking players, with substitute Thembinkosi Lorch hitting the crossbar with a spectacular effort from the center circle.

This win marks the All-Stars’ second consecutive victory, following their triumph over Stellenbosch last season, with Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro at the helm for both wins.

For Magesi, the loss compounds their recent struggles. They remain winless since their Carling Knockout Cup victory over Sundowns last month and have now lost four consecutive matches in all competitions, leaving them at the bottom of the Betway Premiership table.
