CAPE TOWN SPURS MAKE A U-TURN ON ENRST MIDDENDORP

Cape Town Spurs have reappointed Enrst Middendorp as their head coach for the 2024/2025 season despite failing to save the club from relegation in the recently concluded season.

Spurs bowed out of the top-flight league with a resounding 2-0 victory against Kaizer Chiefs. However, despite the victory the club decided to part ways with the German tactician on 3 June.

It came as a shock when the club announced their decision to rehire the coach in a bid to return to the DStv Premiership.

Middendorp said in a statement that was released on the club’s website: I bought into the vision of the club from day one. The picture that the board put in front of me, really excited me and we had started implementing the plans with the intention on building on this in the new season ”

The announcement put an end to the speculations that the former Kaizer Chiefs coach may be joining another PSL team before the start of the season.

”Unfortunately, we were a couple of points short at the end and were relegated. The challenge of the project however remained in my mind even though the club and I decided to part ways. When I returned to Cape Town yesterday, I received a call from the directors to meet up for breakfast. We were able to carve a way through the obstacles that were originally there. I am happy to say that we can now continue from where we left off and deliver, together with the board, the club that we all envisage to see one day attaining its rightful place in SA football” the coach concluded.
