Cape Town Spurs have appointed former Bafana Bafana defender Nasief Morris as head coach ahead of the new season, following the departure of Roger de Sa.
De Sa, who joined Spurs as technical director in July, has left to become assistant coach of the Oman national team, reuniting with Carlos Queiroz, Sportswire.com reported.
The two have a long-standing partnership, having worked together with Bafana Bafana, Portugal, Egypt, and most recently, Iran at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
De Sa’s exit comes as Spurs face major changes after back-to-back relegations – first from the Betway Premiership and then from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The club had hoped to purchase a second-tier status but has since accepted their place in the ABC Motsepe League for the 2025/26 season.
Morris is no stranger to the club, having previously served as assistant coach under Shaun Bartlett. As a player, he enjoyed a successful career abroad, particularly in Greece with Panathinaikos, and later played for SuperSport United and Santos. He now steps in to replace Ernst Middendorp, who oversaw both relegations during a difficult campaign.
Spurs have also informed players that they will not receive the same salaries earned in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, reflecting the financial realities of competing in the third tier. A meeting was held with the squad to address the club’s current standing and plans moving forward.
The changes mark a new chapter for the Cape side, with Morris tasked with rebuilding and restoring the club’s identity in South African football.
Efforts to reach Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
