Cape Town City FC will look to build on their recent 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs when they host fellow Sowetans Orlando Pirates at DHL Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.

The highly anticipated Betway Premiership fixture sees them come up against ex-Pirates manager Muhsin Ertugral who just got one over his previous employers, in Kaizer Chiefs.

Sowetan Fruit

Turkish football manager Muhsin Ertugral did more than raise the eye brow in his first game in charge of Cape Town City FC. Indeed, the latest PSL outfit on his impressive CV delivered a defensive masterclass, nullifying Kaizer Chiefs and securing a victory with a second-half counter-attack.

The result saw the Western Cape powerhouse leapfrog AmaZulu FC on the Betway Premiership log and now the 65-year-old tactician will be licking his lips at the prospect of savouring a second helping of Sowetan fruit.

Standing in his wake is an Orlando Pirates side who are guaranteed a top spot on the table if they manage to collect maximum points. Furthermore, in the head-to-head record, the Mighty Buccaneers have won four of their last five encounters with Cape Town City across all competitions, with the other match ending in a draw.

Relebohile Mofokeng has been nothing short of a revelation since he’s hit the PSL stage, even attracting interest from Spanish giants Barcelona. The dangerman has been getting in on the act in the Betway Premiership, as well as on the continental stage.

During his most recent appearance in the South African topflight, the twenty year old scored the winning goal against Magesi FC the solitary goal in the tie against Magesi FC, and in CAF competition, he opened the scoring in his team’s 3-0 victory over Stade d’Abidjan.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 19:30 on Wednesday, 08 January and will be carried live on the public broadcaster’s radio stations for commentary. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport channel 202 and can also be streamed on Showmax.

Cape Town Stadium

The 55 000 seater stadium will host the clash between Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates. The Greenpoint based stadium was initially constructed to host matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and has since become the dedicated home ground for the esteemed Western Province Rugby Union.

The stadium’s association with DHL is reflected in its official name and apart from hosting football and rugby matches, it has held music concerts and the sixth edition of Roger Federer’s Matches for Africa.
